Workshop Summary

National Workshop in Myanmar

The Project for Strengthening Institutional and Policy Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Integration (hereinafter, CN20 Project) organised three National Workshops and two Regional Forums to discuss and consolidate common approaches for strengthening DRR and CCA integration in ASEAN.

The first National Workshop was held in Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 31 May 2017 which brought together a total of 45 participants from eight ministries and other agencies. Myanmar was selected in consideration of the proneness of water-related disasters, comparative higher disaster and climate risks ranked by some research institutions, and expectation for extracting meaningful inputs for designing common ASEAN approaches for DRR and CCA integration based on their experiences in responding to such disasters and climate change risks. The key objectives of the workshop are as follows:

Objectives:

  • To discuss current conditions including constraints and barriers for implementing DRR and CCA and their integration against water-related disasters of flood, storm, landslide and drought.

  • To discuss directions and necessary actions for improving DRR and CCA and their integration.

  • To discuss desired common approaches for facilitating DRR and CCA integration in ASEAN.
